The Solar Initiative Team
Over 5 years ago, a group of dedicated SAVE students began working on a method to cool a small building using a passive solar technique called, the solar chimney. Utilizing recycled and common materials, the team is working on developing a prototype system to be applied in hospital recovery rooms in rural Haiti.

The project is ongoing as the team works to improve on an existing prototype by running tests and manipulating the design variables.

The team's ideas were utilized in two buildings in Souderton, PA.
- The Zwingly Church, Souderton, PA
- Univest Bank, Souderton, PA

Project updates:

In the spring of 2013, students traveled to Florida to install the newest model of the solar chimney on a test shed on the campus of Valencia College.

In the Fall of 2013, the Passive Solar Team joined in a collaborative relationship with the Engineers Without Borders group at the University of Delaware. The two groups will work together on the most efficient design for the system.
